Well my Twitter experiment is becoming quite addictive. I bit the bullet, logged on and started following people and tweeting and now have 6 followers! Of course in Twitter terms 6 followers is derisory…but you have to start somewhere. I’m following 7 people, mostly from small business circles and the virtual assistant industry. And I’m actually finding it pretty interesting.
I’ve always liked the Ian Hart quote “There’s a statistical theory that if you gave a million monkeys typewriters and set them to work, they’d eventually come up with the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to the Internet, we now know this isn’t true.” There is a huge amount of dross out there, but what has really surprised me on Twitter is how much really interesting and informative free content there is out there too. I started off reading the free guide to Twitter for Business from Duct Tape Marketing which I mentioned in my last post. It was a nice concise read and gave me the confidence to give Twitter a go. Then I also came upon this other blog post on Twitter which links to some great free e-books for small business owners.
At the moment Twitter is very US focused but I wonder if more UK based businesses will start to get on board with it in 2009.
